Maison Ullens SS16

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a sneak preview of the Maison Ullens SS16 collection. This Belgian brand is fairly new to the UK and opened their first London shop in Walton Street this May, after the success of a pop up.

Created by Myriam Ullenhall in 2010 it aims to provide chic travel and sportswear and make the often ‘ a  bit out there’ Sports Luxe market accessible to 30/40+ women.

For women looking for investment pieces which could take you from business meet to party and yet be comfortable enough to travel in this would be right up your street.

If you travel and socialise for work and need comfort and style but don’t want to lug several outfit options in your luggage this is ideal. Ah the smugness of ‘hand luggage only’! In your face baggage reclaim!

Also style-wise…those who might balk at Yeezy’s Adidas collection or more directional Alexander Wang stuff would be perfectly happy with this pretty and feminine collection. It has enough edge to make you stand out from the crowd but is classic enough to make it worth a bigger spend.

This is Artistic Director, Kim Laursen’s second collection and he’s added more detailing and technique using some amazing laser cutting, embossing and mesh techniques and combining knits and leather in such a soft subtle way – there’s real artistry at work here. If you can pop into a shop to have a look up close, it’s hard to convey with photos.

The colour palette is gorgeous too, with a Wes Anderson worthy paintbox of Jaipur red-pink, chocolate brown tan and natural flesh through to Storm Pearl grey, smoky black and navy and Aquamarine and Santorin blue-greens. All of which are immensely cheering to look at as we in the UK face another few months of sludge grey winter 😦

If you’re in London it’s definitely worth investigating the Walton Street shop. They’re also in Rue St. Honore, Paris (ooh la la) and in the States check out their website for full details.

I think it’s always nice to get ahead of the curve and be able to say you were a fan of a brand before they become a much bigger deal, so have a look at Maison Ullens and let me know what you think!
